Most employer-sponsored healthcare providers will use various digital platforms to store patient records. The primary system will be the electronic health record (EHR) system that the care teams access when meeting with patients. Common EHR platforms include athenahealth, Epic, Cerner, NextGen, and eClinicalWorks.

Beyond the EHR, many vendors will sync data with a centralized enterprise data warehouse (EDW) to make the data actionable. Common use cases include connections to a Health Information Exchange or a Content Management System (CMS) such as Salesforce for case management. Data may also flow to outside entities such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide data in a patient portal or mobile app.
